Vermox (mebendazole) is an anthelmintic medicine that treats intestinal worm infections in adults and children, including threadworm, roundworm, whipworm, and hookworm. It works by blocking the worm's ability to absorb glucose, which immobilises and then clears the parasites from the gut naturally over a short period. The worms are not always visible after treatment; this is normal. Vermox is available in tablets and as a liquid suspension suitable for younger children, making it one of the most widely used worm treatments dispensed in Irish pharmacies. For threadworm, the most common worm infection in Ireland, a single dose is typically sufficient, though treating the whole household at the same time is recommended to prevent re-infection. For other worm types, a three-day course may be required; the prescribing information (SPC) or your pharmacist can confirm the appropriate regimen for the specific infection. Mebendazole is not indicated for children under two years of age without medical supervision. Ronaghan's Pharmacy stocks Vermox tablets and liquid, carefully selected to meet the treatment needs of families. If you are unsure which form or dosage is appropriate, our pharmacist team is available to advise before you complete your order.
