How To Use

Before taking temperature:
• Before taking the patients temperature, check whether the column of liquid is below 36⁰C.
• Clean the Geratherm Classic Thermometer before and after each use. See ‘Note on Cleaning’ in the leaflet provided in the box.
• Position the thermometer on the body according to the method of measurement to be used (axillary, rectal or oral).
• After about 4 minutes the thermometer will have reached the body temperature. The measuring fluid in the measurement capillary of the thermometer shows the measured body temperature on the temperature scale.
• The temperature can be read off by rotating the thermometer gently to and fro.
• After measuring, the liquid must be returned to the bottom of the scale. To do this, hold the thermometer as close as possible to the upper end and shake it with 15-20 rapid wrist movements.
Oral Use:
• Measurement time 4 minutes, normal temperature approx. 37⁰
• Doctors prefer oral measurement as it provides fast and accurate results
• Place the thermometer bulb (probe) in one of the two heat pockets to the left or right side of the tongue.

Rectal Use:
• Measurement time 4 minutes, normal temperature approx. 37.6⁰
• Rectal measurement is preferred in the case of children.
• Insert the bulb (probe) into the anus (approx. 2cm)
• You may use a little skin cream or baby oil on the end of the vessel
• You may also use a probe cover for the thermometer. Insert the thermometer into the probe cover
• Lubricate the probe cover with a water soluble jelly for easier insertion
• Insert the tip of the probe no more than 2cm into the rectum

Axillary Use:
• Measurement time 4 minutes, normal temperature approx. 36.7⁰
• The axillary measurement method provides less accurate measurements than oral and rectal measurement.
• Wipe armpit with a dry towel
• Place the probe in the patient’s armpit
• Keep the patients arm pressed firmly against their side.
